Massive Earthmoving Machines
Massive Earthmoving Machinery
This third DVD, in the series, deals with just one mine - but what an exceptional mine it is! Boliden's Aitik copper mine, north of the Arctic Circle, in Sweden, is a massive hole measuring 1 kilometre wide, 3 kilometres long and 400 metres deep! Extracting 43 million tonnes of rock a year requires extreme machines - like a Bucyrus 495 and Komatsu 5500 working at the rock face, which are accompanied by a D105 Scraper, a Cat 994 Wheel Loader, a P&H 4100A and a Unit Rig MT4000. Explore the plant and discover the process of extracting copper from the ore-bearing rock.

modern construction and ground engineering equipment
The trend toward increasing mechanisation of construction work to meet today's demands for greater productivity has resulted in the need for more effective application and management of modern construction technology. This second edition of Modern Construction Equipment and Methods provides comprehensive coverage of the factors affecting the decision making processes in construction and ground engineering equipment, devising temporary works and selecting appropriate equipment. This book provides an invaluable reference work for students and professionals in the fields of civil engineering, construction, building, surveying and architecture.

excavator handbook for operators
This excavator handbook is an 'easy-to-read' with fairly good and representative pictures, diagrams and supporting information. It's written for the newer operator with a presumption of some knowledge of the equipment and techniques and helps to push them along toward a higher level of competence. It's not a bad refresher for the 'old hands' either as it hits on a few techniques that are more recent in development.
It has some good safety information, too.
On the negative, most really experienced operators are going to bypass some of the step-by-step processes - like pipe laying - as described in this book. There are faster, more efficient ways to do some things after you've practiced with the first hundred or so. I found some of the process-descriptions a little hard to understand - like slope cutting and benching - but haven't thought about how to describe it more clearly to make it more understandable.
I'm glad I got it and will open it again every once in a while just to browse, then maybe once in a while to double-check a process.
